Il is advised to get a health insurance that includes treatments abroad and evacuation fees. The registration with the Consulate of your country of origin is recommended. This will allow you to contact them in case of a problem. A consular card will be given to you upon the registration with information about your insurance (in Chinese) and Consulate emergency number, 136 0160 7871.
It is also recommended to have with you at all times: the names and contact information of your contacts in China, contact information of you insurance company, information about your current treatments, allergies, in English or in Chinese. English is spoken in hospitals for expatriates, but it is not the case in most Chinese hospitals.
