In Shanghai, you can use subway to move around the city. A radius of 6km for 3 RMB (0.4€) only. Afterwards the cost goes up by 1 RMB for supplementary 10 km. The tickets can be bought in the ticket offices or using an automatic ticket terminal, equipped with English interface. Generally, the subway system is well translated, with the exception of several rare stations.
The price of a subway ticket does not exceed 10 RMB (1.2€). If you choose a daily pass, it will cost you 18 RMB (2.3€). You have an option of purchasing a pass for 3 days for 45 RMB. It is valid for 72 hours after the first validation.
If you take the subway often, you should consider getting a rechargeable ‘Jiāotōng kǎ‘ card. It is available in any bank or commerce. This card can be also used for taxi, bus, gas station and ferryboat.
The streets of Shanghai are often very long and for easier orientation, it is necessary to know the closest crossroads to your destination. Without this, you may end up on the other end of the street, far away from where you wanted to be.
